| As Britain's leading health and safety laboratory, HSL operates as an agency of the Government's Health and Safety Executive providing research, scientific support and investigative work into workplace accidents and work related diseases. Under a Private Finance Initiative (PFI) contract, a new £56.5 million development will join together HSL's current operations at Sheffield and Buxton into one single modern site. This extensive site at Harpur Hill, near Buxton allows for large-scale experiments for engineering, fire, explosions and process hazards. Working in partnership with PFI Contractor Skanska, Pinacl Solutions delivered the complete IT and communications infrastructure to the Ministry of Defence headquarters in Whitehall. Completed in two phases, the project involved the commission of over four million miles of fibre optic and copper cable and 100,000+ outlets. [more] |

| After the reorganisation of Local Government in April 1998, Reading Borough Council became a Unitary Authority. Overnight, the Council increased in size by over 400% and took over the responsibility for all local public services. The challenges associated with supporting an enlarged IT and telecommunication infrastructure were enormous, so Reading adopted an innovative solution-"Intelligent Outsourcing". In doing so, a platform was created in which seven private sector organisations would work, in partnership, to provide a cost effective, future-proofed communications structure. Pinacl Solutions took overall responsibility for all the voice and data systems in a 10-year Service Level Agreement. [more] |
